Effectiveness of large booms as nutation dampers for spin stabilized spacecraft [PDF]

open access: yes
The issue of using long slender booms as pendulous nutation damping devices on spinning aircraft is discussed. Motivation comes from experience with the Galileo Spacecraft, whose magnetometer boom also serves as a passive nutation damper for the ...

Advanced Design for Weakly Coupled Resonators by Automatic Active Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An Automatic Active Optimization (AAO) strategy integrates machine learning predictors and genetic algorithms in a closed‐loop workflow. By iteratively expanding its dataset with new discoveries, AAO overcomes the limits of conventional methods. This approach finds superior microstructural designs beyond the initial sample space. We demonstrate this on

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Micropillar‐Engineered Hybrid Adhesive Patch for Surface‐Conformable and Directional Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents a surface‐conformable hybrid adhesive integrating height‐optimized hexagonal micropillars with open‐rectangular cuts. The micropillars enhance rough‐surface contact and microscale crack arrest, while the cuts guide and reverse interfacial cracks for strong and directional adhesion. The multiscale architecture achieves robust pull‐off

Elastomers Combining Damping Efficiency With Rapid Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Double network granular elastomers (DNGEs) combine high energy dissipation under both cyclic loading and high impact with rapid shape recovery. 3D printing enables the production of complex, customizable structures with tailored performance. Recyclable DNGEs retain their properties over multiple recycling cycles.

Optimal Design of Magnetic Drive Assembly for High-Speed Gyro-Drill Damper

open access: yesShiyou jixie
As the load on the bit increases, the gyro-drill damper with a rotary speed of 2 000 r/min can no longer meet current drilling requirements. Consequently, a high-speed gyro-drill damper was proposed.

Analysis on Dynamic Performance of Six-Axle 200 km/h High Power Electric Passenger Locomotive in Fault State

open access: yes机车电传动, 2011
For six-axle (2C0) 200 km/h high-power electric passenger locomotive with spring bogie suspension, a dynamic locomotive model was established with the multiple rigid body dynamics software of SIMPACK.

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Experimental behaviour and numerical analysis of dampers MR dampers

open access: yes, 2012
This paper presents the results of an experimental and numerical analysis developed to study the non-linear hysteretic behavior of MR dampers. In the first section a brief review of the numerical models available to simulate their behavior will be presented. To obtain and analyze the hysteretic behavior of MR dampers, a device was experimentally tested
