Effect of Damper Winding and Stator Slot Skewing Structure on No-Load Voltage Waveform Distortion and Damper Bar Heat in Large Tubular Hydro Generator

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
We study the influence of the damper bar pitch, the stator slot skewing degree, and the damper bar number per pole on the no-load voltage waveform harmonic distortion factor (HDF) and the damper winding heat of a tubular hydro generator.

Experimental and Numerical Study on an Innovative Trapezoidal-Shaped Damper to Improve the Behavior of CBF Braces

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
Among the existing passive energy dampers, I-shaped shear dampers had shown suitable performance in experimental and numerical studies. Although they improve the dissipating energy and ductility of concentrically braced frames (CBFs), they reduce the ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Tension Estimation Method for Cable With Damper Using Natural Frequencies and Two-Point Mode Shapes With Uncertain Modal Order

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2022
In the maintenance of cable structures, such as cable-stayed bridges, cable safety is assessed based on the cable tension. In Japan, the cable tension is generally estimated from the cable’s natural frequencies using the higher-order vibration method. In

Designing an Electromagnetic Damper

open access: yesMachines
When it comes to active or semi-active suspension, one of many design challenges is the ability to dynamically change the damping rate of a shock absorber. Two fundamental means of accomplishing variable damping are by changing the restriction imposed on the fluid or changing the viscosity of the fluid.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Peripheral Neutrophil Activation and Extracellular Trap Formation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Markers of neutrophil activation are increased in plasma during ALS, and markers of NET formation associate with ALS survival. ABSTRACT Objectives Peripheral neutrophil levels in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) inversely correlate with survival, suggesting a role for neutrophils in disease progression.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.
