The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1993A sound-absorbing multi-layer structure is disclosed comprising a structural part which is capable of oscillating and a loosely engaging damping sheet, which sheet comprises a flexible material and high material absorption factor and is made up of a heavy sheet with a viscoelastic support layer tightly connected thereto.

Key Engineering Materials, 2007A free layer damping treatment is formed by applying a coating of a high damping material to one or both sides of a structure. If the coating is perfectly bonded to the structure, the coating may be taken as being subjected to the strain at the interface between structure and coating. Consequently, the dominant component of strain is tensile.
