Damping Performance Measurement of Non-uniform Damping Treatments
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007<div class="htmlview paragraph">In industrial applications, both constrained and unconstrained damping treatments are used frequently for noise and vibration control. The additional Damping Loss Factor (DLF) and stiffness gained from these damping treatments are quantified by a standard test procedure, as detailed in ASTM and SAE standards.

Damping performance of colloidal dampers
SPIE Proceedings, 2008Dampers are the key devices for vibration control of structures. The mechanisms of current dampers are internal friction or viscous flow to dissipate external mechanical energies by heat. The high-heat generation potentially causes thermal problems to decrease the durability of dampers.

Influential parameters in system damping performance of viscoelastically damped plates
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012Vibration in metal panels is often undesirable as it can lead to high noise levels, reduced equipment lifetime and physical discomfort. For this reason, vibration and acoustic performance is an important aspect to consider during the design stage. Unconstrained viscoelastic coatings can provide a simple solution for damping vibrations of metal panels ...

Comparing the Performance of UPFC Damping Controller on Damping Low Frequency Oscillations
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015This paper compares the performance of UPFC damping controller (, and ) to damp Low Frequency Oscillations (LFO) in power system equipped with UPFC based on Fuzzy Logic Power System Stabilizer (UPFC based FLPSS). The power system model was developed using linearized model of Phillips-Heffron Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) and simulated in Matlab ...

Damping Performance Using a Panel Structure
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2013<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The performance of damping materials is generally evaluated by experimental methods. However most damping materials used in the transportation industry cannot be excited by itself. Therefore, the measurements are generally made by exciting a damped system, where the damped system

Evaluation of Active Damping Performances in Orbit
Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 1996The efforts dedicated to predicting and overcoming the vibrations of structures in space have increased dramatically over the last ten years. Motivating factors behind this increase are optical systems with high stability requirements, large antennas, sensitive microgravity payloads and compatibility of flexible appendages with attitude control ...

Nonlinear performance of classical damping
Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration, 2013The performance of a classical damping matrix, constructed either from the use of initial structural properties or current structural properties, in the step-by-step solution of a nonlinear multiple degree of freedom (MDOF) system is analytically evaluated. The analytical results are confirmed by numerical examples.

The damping performance of aluminum-based composites
JOM, 1990Metal-matrix composites may offer better damping properties than unreinforced alloys. Because damping properties (and metal-matrix composites) are becoming important in airframe design, the damping capabilities of a number of aluminum-matrix composites were measured over a wide range of frequencies at low strain amplitudes, using a new laser vibrometer
