Damping Properties of Magnetorheological Elastomers

Advanced Materials Research, 2017
Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are a kind of smart materials, which change the mechanical properties (viscoelastic characteristics) under the magnetic field action. In the paper the determination of damping properties (reactive force) of specimens made out of magnetorheological elastomers is presented.

Improvement of damping property of skis

Sports Engineering, 2002
In a previous study, the authors developed a `steel ball damper' to improve the damping of a ski. Experimental results showed that the damping of the ski can be increased at the vibration modes, except for the first and second vibration modes, by using the steel ball damper.

Creep and Damping Properties of Polystyrene

Journal of Applied Physics, 1949
The anelastic behavior of polystyrene has been studied by means of creep tests under long-time load application and by means of damping capacity tests under rapidly varying repeated loading. Tensile creep data taken at various stress amplitudes reveal that the log of the creep rate (at 1000 hours) varies linearly with the log of the stress amplitude. A

On the Damping Properties of a Polyurea Elastomer

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
The development of materials with high damping and energy absorption properties in the form of bulk materials or coatings is today a target for designing components and structures with improved durability and survivability to serve in fields such as aeronautical, mechanical, civil and environmental engineering.

Stiffness and Damping Properties of a Composite Beam Design

2021
This work presents a characterization of dynamic mechanical properties of composite beams that were 3D-printed using fused filament fabrication. Two materials were used in the manufacturing process: a flexible material was used as filler of the hollow section (FilaFlex—Polyether-Polyurethane elastomer) while polylactic acid (PLA) polymer was used for ...

Damping properties of aluminium foams

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1996
The mechanical damping properties of aluminium foams were measured. An experimental apparatus for measuring the loss factor avoiding parasitic damping is described. The difficulties, originating from random spatial density variations, are discussed. A procedure to overcome the problems is proposed and tested.

The Effect of Nano-Filler on the Damping Properties of Polyacrylic Damping Paint

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The dynamic mechanical properties of the blends of polyacrylic ester and various nano-fillers and the effect of nano-filler on the damping properties of polyacrylic ester damping paint were studied by using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) in this paper.

Damping properties of an elastic element

Russian Engineering Research, 2017
A new method is proposed for ongoing measurement of the dissipative properties of an elastic element in a mechanical system. The theoretical basis of the method is outlined.

Damping properties of steel compounds

2005
Vibration damping is usually divided in five different damping mechanisms. They include internal material damping, interface damping (friction damping), radiation damping, energy losses occurring as a result of reflection at discontinuities of structures, and viscous damping caused by viscoelastic material or by surrounding fluid.
