Phenolic exudates from orchid seeds as nutrients chemically attract fungi
Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.Most orchid species require fungi for natural germination, but the molecular mechanism of this symbiosis is poorly understood. Cremastra appendiculata seeds secrete phenolic acids before fungal contact, acting as nutrient molecules to chemically attract its symbiotic fungus Coprinellus disseminatus.
