Reasoning‐optimised large language models reach near‐expert accuracy on board‐style orthopaedic exams: A multi‐model comparison on 702 multiple‐choice questions

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy, calibration, reproducibility and operating cost of seven large language models (LLMs)—including four newer models capable of using advanced reasoning techniques to analyse complex medical information and generate accurate responses—on text‐only orthopaedic multiple‐choice questions

PNNL‐TUNAMELT: Toward automating the detection of interactions with marine energy devices using acoustic camera sensors

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Acoustic cameras, or imaging sonars, are often used to monitor marine energy sites in regions where the water is too dark or turbid for optical sensing. To do so more effectively, scientists are investigating automated detection methodologies to use on these data.

Enrichment of Hyaluronic Acid Binding Tumor Cells by Modulation of Selective Adhesion on Microgel Surfaces

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
We have developed a thermoresponsive microgel system for the selective enrichment of hyaluronic acid‐binding tumor cells. By modulating the adhesion on the microgel surface via temperature changes from 37°C to 30°C, we demonstrate a novel proof‐of‐principle for separating these tumor cell from white blood cells, which has potential applications in ...
