Lorentz symmetry violation, dark matter and dark energy

open access: yes, 2009
Taking into account the experimental results of the HiRes and AUGER collaborations, the present status of bounds on Lorentz symmetry violation (LSV) patterns is discussed. Although significant constraints will emerge, a wide range of models and values of

Mesocotyl elongation in Digitaria sanguinalis during seedling development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The mesocotyl is an embryonic organ present in Poaceae that plays an important role in seedling emergence. The elongation of this first internode contributes decisively to the coleoptile reaching the soil surface.

Trichoscopy in hair disorders in darker skin: An approach to diagnosis

open access: yesClinical Dermatology Review, 2020
Introduction: Trichoscopy is a non-invasive technique that shows promising results in the diagnosis and assessment of response to treatment in various types of alopecias. Besides diagnosing alopecia, it is helpful in choosing an ideal biopsy site.

Dark Matter from Minimal Flavor Violation

open access: yes, 2011
We consider theories of flavored dark matter, in which the dark matter particle is part of a multiplet transforming nontrivially under the flavor group of the Standard Model in a manner consistent with the principle of Minimal Flavor Violation (MFV). MFV

Root pattern: Shooting in the dark? [PDF]

open access: yesSeminars in Cell & Developmental Biology, 1998
Root pattern formation takes place in the embryo and is propagated through subsequent growth and development of the seedling root meristem. Pattern is maintained by positional cues and in some cases by local cell interactions. Such interactions are involved in the balance between cell division and differentiation in cells neighbouring the quiescent ...

Towards Detecting Influential Members and Critical Topics from Dark Web Forums: A Data Mining Approach

open access: yesJournal of Information and Organizational Sciences, 2023
Conventionally, the Internet consists of three parts: Surface, Deep, and Dark Webs. In the last two decades, a massive increase in illicit activities took place on the different platforms of the Dark Web.

Dark Patterns in the Design of Games [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Game designers are typically regarded as advocates for players. However, a game creator’s interests may not align with the players’. We examine some of the ways in which those opposed interests can manifest in a game’s design.

Symmetryless Dark Matter

open access: yes, 2011
It is appealing to stabilize dark matter by the same discrete symmetry that is used to explain the structure of quark and lepton mass matrices. However, to generate the observed fermion mixing patterns, any flavor symmetry must necessarily be broken ...

Colour change and assortment in the western rainbowfish [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Grouping behaviour is widespread across the animal kingdom, and is known to reduce an individual's risk of predation, for example through predator confusion.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
