Dark Energy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2011
Dark energy models account for the present accelerated expansion of the universe. Many models were suggested and investigated, based on very different physical principles. We will review some representative models emphasizing similarities and differences between these various approaches.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Identification and Functional Characterization of Arabidopsis icl Mutant Under Trehalose Feeding in Light and Dark Conditions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Genetic Resources, 2019
Trehalose is a non-reducing sugar that plays an important role in plant growth and development. To study the role of trehalose on lipid metabolism and gluconeogenesis, Arabidopsis thaliana wild type (WT) and TreF (a line expressing trehalase) were grown ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Chloroplast Redox Regulatory Mechanisms in Plant Adaptation to Light and Darkness

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
Light is probably the most important environmental stimulus for plant development. As sessile organisms, plants have developed regulatory mechanisms that allow the rapid adaptation of their metabolism to changes in light availability.

DARK ENERGY, DARK MATTER AND GRAVITY [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics D, 2007
We discuss the motivation for high accuracy relativistic gravitational experiments in the solar system and complementary cosmological tests. We focus our attention on the issue of distinguishing a generic scalar theory of gravity as the underlying physical theory from the usual general-relativistic picture, where one expects the presence of ...

Igniting imagination through darkness: discovering fear and fantasy through shadows, silence and the invisible. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Darkness invites imagination. On the one hand, it creates intimacy. It has been observed by many artforms that we feel the need to close off our vision during intense emotional experiences, during dreaming, listening to music, or caressing our loved ones.

Between light and darkness: Earthsea and the name of utopia

open access: yes, 2005
In Le Guin's Earthsea Quartet, knowledge of the name of a thing or person guarantees control over their destiny. In a world where light and darkness co-exist and where dragons are an extension of humans, a name is the means with which one can achieve one'
