Machine learning for observation bias correction with application to dust storm data assimilation

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2019
. Data assimilation algorithms rely on a basic assumption of an unbiased observation error. However, the presence of inconsistent measurements with nontrivial biases or inseparable baselines is unavoidable in practice. Assimilation analysis might diverge

Biodegradable Poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate)/Poly(lactic) Acid Mulch Film with Soy Waste Filler for Improved Biodegradation and Plant Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
The study finds that mulch films made with poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate)/poly(lactic acid) and 10% soy waste degrade faster than those without soy. Plants grown with the soy‐containing films are 49% taller, suggesting that the soy acts as a biostimulant.

Investigating Multiwavelength Lognormality with Simulations—Case of Mrk 421

open access: yesGalaxies, 2020
Blazars are highly variable and display complex characteristics. A key characteristic is the flux probability distribution function or flux PDF whose shape depends upon the form of the underlying physical process driving variability.

How do both firm‐level resources and country‐level competitiveness shape the relationship between alliance portfolio diversity and radical innovation? A comparison between the food and other manufacturing industries

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examines how European food companies can operationally leverage the value created by strategic alliances into commercially viable products. More importantly, it emphasizes that the effects of alliance portfolio diversity (APD) on radical innovation performance can be achieved not only directly, but also via moderating roles, that is,

Observation Impact Assessment on the Prediction of the Earth System Dynamics Using the Adjoint-Based Method

open access: yesТруды СПИИРАН, 2018
Mathematical models of the Earth system and its components represent one of the most powerful and effective instruments applied to explore the Earth system's behaviour in the past and present, and to predict its future state considering external ...

Correcting Observation Model Error in Data Assimilation

open access: yes, 2018
Standard methods of data assimilation assume prior knowledge of a model that describes the system dynamics and an observation function that maps the model state to a predicted output.

Estimating global gross primary productivity using chlorophyll fluorescence and a data assimilation system with the BETHY-SCOPE model

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2018
. This paper presents the assimilation of solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) into a terrestrial biosphere model to estimate the gross uptake of carbon through photosynthesis (GPP). We use the BETHY-SCOPE model to simulate both GPP and SIF using

Wine Tourism as a Catalyst for Sustainable Performance: The Mediating Role of Corporate Legitimacy and Green Innovation

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aims to explore the influence of Wine Tourism (WT) on the Sustainable Performance (SP) of wineries in Spain. It particularly investigates how Corporate Social Legitimacy (CSL) and Green Innovation (GI) may act as intermediary factors in this relationship.

Nonlinear Impacts of Surface Exchange Coefficient Uncertainty on Tropical Cyclone Intensity and Air‐Sea Interactions

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Tropical cyclone maximum intensity is believed to result from a balance between the surface friction, which removes energy, and a temperature/moisture (enthalpy) difference between the sea surface and the air above it, which adds energy.
