Spaceborne microwave radiometer observations play vital roles in surface parameter retrievals and data assimilation, but widespread radio-frequency interference (RFI) signals in the C-band channel result in a lack of valuable data over large areas ...

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...

Physically-based data assimilation [PDF]
Abstract. Ideally, a validation and assimilation scheme should maintain the physical principles embodied in the model and be able to evaluate and assimilate lower dimensional features (e.g., discontinuities) contained within a bulk simulation, even when these features are not directly observed or represented by model variables. We present such a scheme

Influence of CO2 observations on the optimized CO2 flux in an ensemble Kalman filter [PDF]
In this study, the effect of CO2 observations on an analysis of surface CO2 flux was calculated using an influence matrix in the CarbonTracker, which is an inverse modeling system for estimating surface CO2 flux based on an ensemble Kalman filter.

Abstract In order to independently supervise the medical use of byproduct material, physicists in the United States (US) must legally meet the qualifications defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in the 35th part of the tenth title of the Code of Federal Regulations (§ 10 CFR Part 35). The American Board of Radiology (ABR) relinquished its

Development and Evaluation of a New Method for AMSU-A Cloud Detection over Land
Satellite data are the main source of information for operational data assimilation systems, and Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A (AMSU-A) data are one of the types of satellite data that contribute most to the reduction of numerical forecast errors ...

This study examines the mechanical properties of triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS)‐based lattices, analyzing 36 architectures in elastic and plastic regimes. It evaluates the applicability of beam‐based scaling laws to TPMS lattices. Rigidity arises from the alignment of members with the load direction and solid regions preventing rotation.

Helicobacter pylori gastric infection is widespread and recurrency is common, fuelled by bacterial resistance to antibiotics. Therefore, specific and noninducing resistance alternative treatments are an urgent need. Taking advantage of this gastric pathogen auxotrophy for cholesterol, a “trojan horse” strategy for H.

How Asian slum emissions impact local microclimates in polluted air masses
Cook stove emissions over urban sprawl in South India and expected microphysical implications. Combustion‐mediated soot and black carbon from biomass burning in shantytowns modulate the local cloud cover. Abstract Urban sprawl comprising densely populated slums over South Asian cities yields copious amounts of soot and black carbon from archaic cooking
