The usefullness of database management techniques is directly related to the manner in which the database itself is designed. Numerous attempts have been made to bring structure to the design process. The paper proposes a coherent integrated approach to database design and describes an extensive example of its use.

A framework of reference for database design
ACM SIGMIS Database: the DATABASE for Advances in Information Systems, 1984This work introduces a framework of reference for database design.Database (DB) design is presented as a part of information system (IS) design, because the DB design process is concerned with the construction of a database as a subsystem of an IS.

Evidence-based medicine has always relied on databases. Anyone who needs to know anything about the outcome of a treatment needs a database, but individual practitioners may feel that database design is beyond them for various reasons. Effective database design does not require complexity.

A microcomputer database design
Microprocessing and Microprogramming, 1989Abstract The paper presents a microcomputer database design, which attempts to satisfy the following requirements: capability of operating in single-user and multi-user environments in centralized or distributed configurations, efficient access to data stored, separation of the end user from the internal level of the database, simplicity of ...

Genau an diesem Punkt treten Datenbanksysteme in Erscheinung.

Database design methodologies and tools should facilitate database modeling, effectively support database processing, database redesign and transform a conceptual schema of the database to a high-performance database schema in the model of the corresponding DBMS. Since the late 1970’s, various tools for database design have been introduced.

The American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 1991
Abstract Computerized databases can facilitate several types of occupational therapy research. The value and usefulness of any database, however, is dependent on how well it has been designed. In this paper, a systematic, sequential-process model for the development of a computerized database is introduced. Each component of the model is

The Linguistic Design of the EuroWordNet Database
Computers and the Humanities, 1998In this paper the linguistic design of the database under construction within the EuroWordNet project is described. This is mainly structured along the same lines as the Princeton Word-Net, although some changes have been made to the WordNet overall design due to both theoretical and practical reasons.

Integrating Database and Dialogue Design
Knowledge and Information Systems, 2000The user interface of data-intensive information systems may be described as a collection of semi-independent dialogues with underlying procedures accessing databases. It will be shown how to conceptualize dialogues via dialogue objects. These are organized in an object oriented fashion by dialogue classes modelled as extended database views.
