GMEnzy: A Genetically Modified Enzybiotic Database

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
GMEs are genetically modified enzybiotics created through molecular engineering approaches to deal with the increasing problem of antibiotic resistance prevalence. We present a fully manually curated database, GMEnzy, which focuses on GMEs and their design strategies, production and purification methods, and biological activity data.

The inherited ataxias: Genetic heterogeneity, mutation databases, and future directions in research and clinical diagnostics

open access: yesHuman Mutation, 2012
The inherited cerebellar ataxias are a diverse group of clinically and genetically heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorders. Inheritance patterns of these disorders can be complex with autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, X‐linked, and mitochondrial

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Identification of genetic markers associated with cisplatin-induced toxicity using public genomic databases

open access: yesClinical Medicine
Introduction: Cisplatin is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent for treating various malignancies. However, its clinical utility is often restricted by toxicities, such as nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity and ototoxicity.1 Identifying genetic factors ...

An investigation of genetic algorithm-based feature selection techniques applied to keystroke dynamics biometrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Due to the continuous use of social networks, users can be vulnerable to online situations such as paedophilia treats. One of the ways to do the investigation of an alleged pedophile is to verify the legitimacy of the genre that it claims. One possible

ToxGen: An improved reference database for the identification of type B-trichothecene genotypes in Fusarium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Type B trichothecenes, which pose a serious hazard to consumer health, occur worldwide in grains. These mycotoxins are produced mainly by three different trichothecene genotypes/chemotypes: 3ADON (3-acetyldeoxynivalenol), 15ADON (15-acetyldeoxynivalenol)

Research applications of primary biodiversity databases in the digital age

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2019
We are in the midst of unprecedented change—climate shifts and sustained, widespread habitat degradation have led to dramatic declines in biodiversity rivaling historical extinction events.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

A core genetic module : the Mixed Feedback Loop

open access: yes, 2005
The so-called Mixed Feedback Loop (MFL) is a small two-gene network where protein A regulates the transcription of protein B and the two proteins form a heterodimer.
