3-D Microtransformers for DC–DC On-Chip Power Conversion

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2015
We address the miniaturization of power converters by introducing novel 3-D microtransformers with magnetic core for low-megahertz frequency applications. The core is fabricated by lamination and microstructuring of Metglas 2714A magnetic alloy. The solenoids of the microtransformers are wound around the core using a ball-wedge wirebonder.

Advanced power devices for DC-DC conversion

2004 24th International Conference on Microelectronics (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8716), 2004
A new generation of semiconductor devices for efficient power management applications is presented. Switch-mode dc-dc synchronous buck converter functional blocks are discussed and different system partitioning solutions are examined. The tradeoff in performance, space, power dissipation, and cost objectives are highlighted.

DC-DC conversion techniques for low-voltage power supplies

2015 IEEE International Symposium on Radio-Frequency Integration Technology (RFIT), 2015
This paper describes two DC-DC conversion techniques suitable for low-voltage mobile applications. Converters using the first technique realize high efficiency under light-load conditions by having an architecture with a simple common-source amplifier and a low-power differential amplifier.

Low-Power On-Chip Charge-Recycling DC-DC Conversion Circuit and System

IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 2013
A charge-recycling circuit and system that reuses the energy between two or more stacked CPUs is proposed in order to double the life of a battery. In this architecture, CPUs are divided into upper and lower load groups, and electrical charges are shared among the stacked CPUs and a tank capacitor.

Increase in Power of DC/DC Converters with Increased Number of Conversion Channels

2020 Ural Smart Energy Conference (USEC), 2020
This paper provides the results of the study devoted to power increase for DC/DC converters with a larger number of channels. Possible options were demonstrated for bidirectional converters. Recommendations were given concerning using these types of converters in high-power electrical equipment, including electrical drives with their own power source ...

Constant frequency resonant topologies for bidirectional DC/DC power conversion

Proceedings of IEEE Power Electronics Specialist Conference - PESC '93, 2002
The use of unidirectional constant frequency (CF) DC-DC power converter families based on quasi-resonant, quasi-square-wave (QSW), and multi-resonant topologies for bidirectional power conversion is proposed. The complete analysis and design considerations for bidirectional buck/boost CF-ZVS-QSW power converters are discussed in terms of switching and ...

Single-cycle resonant bidirectional DC/DC power conversion

Proceedings Eighth Annual Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition,, 2002
Two new families of bidirectional DC/DC converters suitable for high frequency high efficiency operation are proposed, based on single-cycle resonant (SCyR) topology. The ZCS/ZVS and ZVS/ZCS-SCyR bidirectional converter families are capable of resonant operation from no-load to full-load, and they have load independent PWM-like characteristics ...

A novel control principle of bi-directional DC-DC power conversion

PESC97. Record 28th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference. Formerly Power Conditioning Specialists Conference 1970-71. Power Processing and Electronic Specialists Conference 1972, 2002
This paper presents a novel control method for DC-DC power converters with bi-directional power flow and galvanic isolation. A high efficiency is achieved by using a minimal number of power electronic devices working in the soft switching mode. No reverse blocking switches are required.

Resonant DC-DC converter for high efficiency bidirectional power conversion

2013 Twenty-Eighth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2013
For achieving the high gain characteristics of LLC resonant converters in both of the power flow directions for bidirectional power transfer applications, a bidirectional LLC resonant converter with auxiliary switches is proposed. Auxiliary switches are connected in the primary and secondary sides of the proposed converter, respectively.

Autonomous DC-DC Power Conversion Process Control Design and Simulation

2019 IEEE National Aerospace and Electronics Conference (NAECON), 2019
This paper presents an autonomous bidirectional DC-DC power controller that provides high efficiency, reliable, fault-tolerant, and intelligent power conversions between a DC source and sink. Real-time sensor data and feedback information are processed inside a single Xilinx Artix-7 field programming logic array (FPGA) chip.
