The Political U: New Evidence on the Economic Costs of Hybrid Regimes

ABSTRACT Recent research establishes a positive causal effect from democracy to income, although this evidence relies mostly on binary regime classifications. We extend the identification framework of Acemoglu et al. (2019) to a classification that distinguishes democracies, autocracies, and hybrid regimes for about 170 countries over 1960–2024.

Inducible tomato defences persist in detached leaves, despite differential plant variety and gene‐dependent expression

Short‐ and long‐term expression of PPO‐D, PI‐IIc and PR‐1a were assessed in intact plants and detached tomato leaves of two varieties infested with Tetranhycus urticae. Tomato defences were induced in both intact and detached leaves, but the induction levels varied with plant variety and gene assessed.

Arsenite methyltransferase 3 is required for mitochondrial function and hepatic lipid metabolism

AS3MT is a protein that helps the body process arsenic, a naturally occurring toxin found in water and soil. We discovered it also helps cells make and use energy properly. TRIM32 controls timely cell cycle exit in muscular differentiation through downregulation of c‐Myc mRNA

The FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Trim32 regulates the transition from proliferation to differentiation in C2C12 cells after myogenic induction. We found that, at the onset of differentiation, Trim32 destabilizes c‐Myc mRNA, promotes cell cycle exit, and enables normal myotube formation.
