The dead metal zone in high-pressure torsion

Scripta Materialia, 2012
Plastic deformation behavior during high-pressure torsion (HPT) was analyzed by the finite element method in order to investigate heterogeneous deformation in HPT-processed disks. The effective strain and strain rate developed increase from the center to the edge of the HPT-processed disk; however, they decrease to zero at the surface corner of the ...

Metallographic Analysis of the Dead Metal Zone In Metal Cutting With a Rounded-Edge Tool

open access: yesPractical Metallography, 2013
Abstract The experimental results show that a small dead region is seen in front of the rake face during cutting with a rounded-edge cutting tool. Although this fact was accepted, metallographic analysis of the dead metal zone had never been conducted. A quick stop device was used to obtain chip root samples that are representative of

Dead Lithium in Lithium Metal Batteries: Formation, Characterization and Strategies

Chemistry - A European Journal
AbstractLithium (Li) metal anode (LMA) replacing graphite anode for developing Li metal batteries (LMB) with the higher energy density has attracted much attention. However, LMA faces many issues, e. g., Li dendrites, dead Li and the side reactions, which causes the safety hazards and low coulomb efficiency (CE) of battery, therefore, LMB still cannot ...

Revitalizing Lithium Metal Batteries: Strategies for Tackling Dead Lithium Formation and Reactivation

Small
Abstract Lithium (Li) metal batteries (LMBs) are among the most promising candidates for future battery technology due to their high theoretical capacity and energy density. However, the formation of dendritic Li, characterized by needle‐like structures, poses serious safety issues.

The Metallic Bond—Dead or Alive? A Comment and a Reply

Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English, 1995
What's in a name?! The letters discuss the usefulness of assigning qualitative concepts to the results of rigorous mathematical calculations. Exact definitions of the terms do not solve the dilemma, but pitfalls can be avoided with a knowledge of the assumption behind the calculations.

The corrosion of metals in the water of the Dead Sea

Corrosion Science, 1966
Abstract The solids content of the Dead Sea approaches 300 g/l. The effect of this water on various metals, especially those used as condenser tubing, has been investigated. Jet impingement tests and static immersion tests have shown that some alloys showing small advantages over others in normal sea water are appreciably more resistant to Dead Sea ...

Determination of Some Heavy Metals in the Dead Sea

International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, 1985
Abstract Chemical interferences in determination of trace heavy metals in a concentrated salt matrix like the Dead Sea and the ways to overcome them, is the object of this paper. Three different methods were checked for this matter. APDC-TCTFE extraction with GFAAS, direct determination by AAS with matrix modifier and Zeeman background correction and ...

Uptake of heavy metals by living and dead Cladonia thalli

Environmental and Experimental Botany, 1997
Uptake of Pb, Cu and Zn by thalli of Cladonia convoluta (Lam.) and Cladonia rangiformis (Hoffm.) from different concentrations of solutions of Pb(NO3)2, CuCl2 and ZnCl2 was studied. Zinc accumulation was higher in living than in dead thalli, but the opposite occurred for Pb and Cu. Further study with a solution containing all three metals revealed that

The Metallic Bond‐Dead or Alive? Kommentar und Antwort

Angewandte Chemie, 1995
