A new classification system for dead zones in metal cutting

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1988
Abstract Chip formation in metal cutting often involves the formation of dead zones. These dead zones may influence tool life, roughness of the cut surface and the dimensional accuracy of the workpiece. The present paper is intended to solve the lack of unambiguous terminology and definitions of different observed dead zone phenomena.

Biosorption and bioaccumulation of heavy metals on dead and living biomass of Bacillus sphaericus

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2009
The tolerance to As, Hg, Co, Fe and Cr was determined in different Colombian Bacillus sphaericus native strains, as well as the biosorption and bioaccumulation in living biomass. In addition, biosorption of Cr in dead cells was also determined. Living cells of the two most tolerant strains had the capacity to accumulate between 6 and 47% of Co, Hg, Fe ...

‘We Are the Dead’: The War Poets, metal music and chaos control

Metal Music Studies, 2021
During the course of the First World War, the generation of British authors known collectively as the War Poets revolutionized the popular culture of their time. Due to their changing attitudes towards armed conflict, their portrayal of war chaos included realist descriptions of life in the trenches, unusual choices of subject matter and an eventual ...

Rejuvenating dead lithium supply in lithium metal anodes by iodine redox

Nature Energy, 2021
Inactive lithium (more frequently called dead lithium) in the forms of solid–electrolyte interphase and electrically isolated metallic lithium is principally responsible for the performance decay commonly observed in lithium metal batteries. A fundamental solution of recovering dead lithium is urgently needed to stabilize lithium metal batteries.

Biosorption of Heavy Metals by Dead Streptomyces fradiae

Environmental Engineering Science, 2008
Streptomyces fradiae dead biomass was found to adsorb different heavy metal ions. The biomass was crosslinked with glutaraldehyde for better mechanical stability. Batch sorption studies were carried out with Cu(II), Zn(II), Ni(II), and Pb(II) solutions (0.7 g/dm3) at 20°C, pH 5.5. Best biosorption was reached for copper ions (16 mg/g).

Shape Complexity, Metal Flow, and Dead Metal Zone in Cold Extrusion

Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2010
Nonhomogeneous metal flow through an extrusion die can directly affect product quality, productivity, and die life. The complexity of a die profile is an indicator of how difficult it is to extrude the profile. Some investigations about the effect of die complexity on extrusion pressure, product quality, and die life can be found in the published ...

Determination of metals’ contents in the Dead Sea’s water, mud and sediments

International Journal of Energy and Water Resources, 2020
The unique climatic condition of the Dead Sea area makes it a renowned site for climatotherapy worldwide. Its water and mud are used for therapy and as sources for many cosmetic products. The high evaporation rate of the water of the Dead Sea makes the measurements of its minerals’ concentrations with time a necessity.

Numerical analysis of the formation of the dead metal zone with different tools in orthogonal cutting

Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory, 2015
Abstract This work focuses on the mechanism of the dead metal zone (DMZ) formation and the effects of the cutting edge geometries (sharp, chamfered, double chamfered and blunt edges) and the cutting speed as well as the coefficient of friction on the formation of DMZ during orthogonal cutting of AISI 1045 material using finite element method (FEM ...

Assessment of Some Heavy Metals in the Dead Sea Mud and Treatment Optimization

Soil and Sediment Contamination: An International Journal, 2017
ABSTRACTThis paper describes the experimental remediation of the Dead Sea mud and the quantitative determination of some heavy metals. Herein, two chelating agents were employed as extracting aqueous solution: ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and citric acid.

Influence of Dyes on Metal Removal: a Study Using Live and Dead Cells of Penicillium simplicissimum in Single-Metal and Dye-Metal Mixtures

Water, Air, & Soil Pollution, 2018
The metal removal efficiency of live and dead fungal cells of Penicillium simplicissimum (isolate 10, KP713758) was tested against 100 ppm toxic metals Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn and trivalent Cr in single-metal solutions and in mixtures with 50 ppm triphenylmethane (TPM) dyes (Cotton Blue, Crystal Violet, Methyl Violet, and Malachite Green). Results revealed that
