Asian Fisheries Science, 1991 Maturity and .spawning of shortfin scad (Decapterus macrosoma) in the Java Sea were investigated using macroscopic characteristics of the gonad for determining the stages of maturity and gonadosomatic index (GSI) for the growth of the gonads. The fish reached maturity in July; spawning would likely occur in July/August.
