All species of the isopod family Cymothoidae are obligate fish parasites, extracting nourishment through hematophagy and tissue consumption. To elucidate the detrimental effects of this parasitic relationship upon the host fish, we examined body length, weight of body, gonad, liver and stomach contents, and condition factor of Japanese scad Decapterus ...

Composition, functional properties and antioxidative activity of a protein hydrolysate prepared from defatted round scad (Decapterus maruadsi) mince, using Flavourzyme, with a degree of hydrolysis (DH) of 60%, were determined. The protein hydrolysate had a high protein content (48.0%) and a high ash content (24.56%). It was brownish yellow in colour (L∗

Round scad (Decapterus maruadsi) was hydrolyzed with a double-enzyme (a mixture of neutrase and trypsin) to obtain antioxidant peptides. The round scad hydrolysates obtained by 5-h hydrolysis (RSH) displayed the strongest antioxidant activities, which could scavenge the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, the hydroxyl radical, and exhibit ...

Further record of Ceratothoa carinata (Isopoda: Cymothoidae) parasitic on Decapterus maruadsi in Japanese waters [PDF]
The cymothoid isopod Ceratothoa carinata (Bianconi, 1869) was found in the buccal cavity of the Japanese scad Decapterus maruadsi (Temminck & Schlegel, 1843) from the western Seto Inland Sea. This parasite is likely to be common in some local populations of D. maruadsi in Japanese waters.

The effects of muscle types and washing on the properties of a protein-based film from round scad (Decapterus maruadsi) mince were investigated. Washing resulted in an increase in the protein content with a coincidental decrease in the fat content of mince, especially from whole muscle and dark muscle.

AbstractBACKGROUND: Defatted peanut meal, a protein‐rich by‐product from the oil extraction industry, is underutilised owing to its inferior functional properties. In this study, transglutaminase (TGase) crosslinking and proteolysis were used to improve the emulsifying properties of peanut protein isolate (PPI) extracted from the meal.

The purpose of this study was to determine the growth and reproductive characteristics of round scad Decapterus maruadsi in the East China Sea. The characteristics regarding growth and reproduction of round scad based on otolith reading and gonad histology, respectively, were estimated. The von Bertalanffy’s growth model for round scad was estimated as

Decapterus maruadsi is a commercially important species in China, but has been heavily exploited in some areas. There is a growing need to develop microsatellites promoting its genetic research for the adequate management of this fishery resources. The recently developed specific-locus amplified fragment sequencing (SLAF-seq) is an efficient and high ...

Abstract The general production model of Deriso-Schnute is modified to assess the stock of Wanshan Spring Decapterus maruadsi (T. & S.) in the South China Sea, using catch/effort data from 1960 to 1984. Limited data on age composition and growth were available and these were used to estimate growth parameters, the natural survival rate and ...
