Optimizing a metabarcoding marker portfolio for species detection from complex mixtures of globally diverse fishes

We assessed the performance of 22 DNA metabarcoding primer sets for detecting 103 species of marine and freshwater bony fishes, elasmobranchs, cephalopods, and crustaceans. We find that a portfolio of four markers targeting 12S, 16S, and multiple regions of COI identifies all reference taxa to family and nearly 60% to species.

Decadal‐Scale Variation in Mean Trophic Level in Beibu Gulf Based on Bottom‐Trawl Survey Data

Abstract Using bottom‐trawl survey data to examine fishery resources in the Beibu Gulf, South China Sea, changes in stock density, dominant species composition, mean trophic level, and the fishing‐in‐balance index were comprehensively analyzed. The results show that the stock density of fishery resources declined in the gulf from 1961 to 2017.
