Metal accumulation by wood-decaying fungi

Abstract Metal concentrations (Na, K, Rb, Mg, Ca, Sr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd, Al, and Pb) in the sporophores of ten wood-decaying macromycete species were related to concentrations in the wood substrates. Manganese, Sr, Ca, and Pb were usually excluded by the fungi, K, Rb, and, to a lower degree, Cd, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mg and Na, were accumulated.
