Decentralised coordination of information gathering agents

open access: yes, 2010
Unmanned sensors are rapidly becoming the de facto means of achieving situational awareness — the ability to make sense of, and predict what is happening in an environment — in disaster management, military reconnaissance, space exploration, and climate ...

Bionic Solar‐Powered Heavy Metal Trap for Eco‐Friendly Sludge Drying and Simultaneous Electricity Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein, we propose a solar‐powered heavy metal trap (SPHT) for sludge disposal. The indoor experiments demonstrated that the sludge water content decreased from 90 % to 31 %, coupled with a decrease in heavy metal content to 6 % at most. Furthermore, the designed SPHT generated an initial potential of 0.10 V, and monitoring this hydrovoltaic potential ...

DCOPS and bandits: Exploration and exploitation in decentralised coordination

open access: yes, 2012
Real life coordination problems are characterised by stochasticity and a lack of a priori knowledge about the interactions between agents. However, decentralised constraint optimisation problems (DCOPs), a widely adopted framework for modelling ...

A Portable and Dual‐Button Microneedle Device Enables Intelligent Multimodal Laser Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A portable and dual‐button microneedle device enables rapid interstitial fluid sampling. Coupled with multimodal laser sensing and AI‐assisted data processing, the platform enables simultaneous molecular and elemental analysis for minimally invasive and multiplexed health assessment toward point‐of‐care diagnostics.

Interfacial Water Coordination on Ruthenium Oxide Nanoparticles Confined Within Covalent Organic Framework and Its Effect on Electrochemical Nitrate Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate how oxygen‐deficient ruthenium oxide (RuOx) nanoparticles confined within covalent organic framework achieve highly efficient nitrate‐to‐ammonia conversion. Strong interaction between RuOx nanoparticles and COF results in modified interfacial hydrogen‐bond water network and adsorption of nitrogenous intermediates.

Swarmchestrate: Towards a Fully Decentralised Framework for Orchestrating Applications in the Cloud-to-Edge Continuum

open access: yes
Collecting and analysing large amounts of data in the Cloud-to-Edge computing continuum raises novel challenges that traditional centralised orchestration solutions cannot handle efficiently. To overcome the limitations of current centralised application

Interacting Parallel Fluidic Hysterons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The parallel coupling of fluidic hysterons is introduced, establishing advanced functionalities in inflatable soft systems. A pressure–volume framework reveals how preset volumes Δv∗${\Delta }v^*$ tune nonlinear interactions between hysterons and actuation sequences without changing architecture. Experiments validate the predictions, opening new routes
