Decentralized Control and Decentralized Adaptive Control
2006Abstract : As systems become complex with many interconnected subsystems, decentralized control becomes essential. When certain parameters of the system are unknown, and/or when subsystems are not aware of the signals from other subsystems that affect their behavior, we need decentralized adaptive control.

The main objective of this paper is to present a solution of the longstanding problem of optimal decentralized control using the classical method of Lagrange. The key idea of the paper is to formulate decentralized information structure constraints as differential equations, which are added to the equations of motion to form a suitable set of ...

In this chapter, the optimal decentralized control problem is studied, where it is desired to design a decentralized controller which minimizes a prescribed quadratic function of the input energy and tracking error. The performance index is minimized over a set of uniformly distributed initial conditions on a sphere.

Decentralized Adaptive Control
1992ABSTRACT A continuous time decentralized model reference adaptive controller is proposed for a large scale system composed of N interconnected linear subsystems with unknown parameters. Each local adaptive law utilizes a normalizing signal which is generated using the local input and the outputs of all the subsystems.

The feasibility of decentralized control and observation of flight control systems is considered. It is shown that, by decomposition and input and output decentralization, reliable compensators can be designed to obtain suboptimal and exponentially stable flight control systems, Local and active control can be implemented with a minimum amount of ...

Reliable decentralized control
Proceedings of 1994 American Control Conference - ACC '94, 2005We study reliable stabilization of linear, time-invariant, multi-input multi-output, two-channel decentralized control systems. We develop necessary and sufficient conditions for reliable decentralized stabilizability under sensor or actuator failures and present reliable decentralized controller design methods for strongly stabilizable plants.

Decentralized learning control
[1992] Proceedings of the 31st IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2005The theoretical results reported are motivated by the problem of maneuvering common objects by multiple robots. The authors show that learning control is possible in a decentralized configuration. Sufficient conditions are given for decentralized learning control convergence.

Overlapping decentralized control
[1991] Proceedings of the 30th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2002A decentralized output feedback controller design approach for systems which are required to have an overlapping feedback structure is discussed. The approach first involves transforming the given system into a larger-dimensional system. Decentralized controllers are then designed, possibly using the optimal control approach, for the expanded system ...

Decentralized/Relegated Control
1988Decentralized Control is being pursued as an appealing approach to the control of large space structures. One major problem in decentralized compensator design techniques is the incorporation of various implementation constraints, such as subsystem input bandwidth, sensitivity and robustness requirements, integrity constraints, and so on.

In this chapter, the stability of decentralized control systems is investigated, which is shown to be dependent on the notion of decentralized fixed modes (DFMs). Different techniques are provided to characterize the DFMs of a general proper finite-dimensional LTI system. The first technique is an efficient numerical method which can be easily utilized
