Integration with Ontologies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
One of today’s hottest IT topics is integration, as bringing together information from different sources and structures is not completely solved. The approach outlined here wants to illustrate how ontologies [Gr93] could help to support the integration ...

Copper Nanocrystallization in Anodic Oxide Films of Ti–Cu‐Based Bulk Metallic Glass and Its Effect on the Corrosion Resistance and Cytocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Viktoriia Shtefan, Thorgund Nemec, Ute Hempel, Annett Gebert and coworkers demonstrate that anodic treatment of Ti–Cu‐based metallic glass in a nontoxic pyrophosphate electrolyte forms a protective bilayered Ti/Zr‐oxide film enriched with Cu nanocrystals.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

A Systematic Analysis of how Practitioners Articulate Business Models across Disruptive Industries

open access: yesTechnology Innovation Management Review, 2020
Ongoing debates surround the role of business models in understanding the dynamics related to disruptive innovation. Too little is still known about how practitioners highlight different characteristics of business models across industries confronted ...

On Deductionism [PDF]

open access: yes
Deductionism assimilates nature to conceptual artifacts (models, equations), and tacitly holds that real physical systems are such artifacts. Some physical concepts represent properties of deductive systems rather than of nature.

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

Causal reasoning with mental models

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2014
This paper outlines the model-based theory of causal reasoning. It postulates that the core meanings of causal assertions are deterministic and refer to temporally-ordered sets of possibilities: A causes B to occur means that given A, B occurs, whereas A

Modulating Two‐Photon Absorption in a Pyrene‐Based MOF Series: An In‐Depth Investigation of Structure–Property Relationships

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates H4TBAPy‐based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) ‐ NU‐1000, NU‐901, SrTBAPy, and BaTBAPy ‐ for multiphoton absorption (MPA) performance. It observes topology‐dependent variations in the 2PA cross‐section, with BaTBAPy exhibiting the highest activity.
