‘Giving Back to Our Community’: The Retention of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Disability Workforce in New South Wales, Australia

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia require culturally responsive services. The Australian government has committed to establishing strategies to increase the size of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander disability workforce; however, there is scant research on the factors influencing retention.

Fluorogenic Coupled Assays Reveal Catalytic Properties, Inhibition Constants and Cellular Location of Mucin‐Active Carbohydrate Sulfatases

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We report plate‐based coupled assays to rapidly and quantitatively determine the activity and selectivity of mucin‐active carbohydrate sulfatases. This fluorogenic assay further enables inhibitor identification and allows determination of (sub‐)cellular location. ABSTRACT Sulfated glycans play a central role in human health and influence cell signaling,

To What Extent Do Australian Government Metrics Align With Indigenous and Non‐Indigenous Conceptualisations of Wellbeing? A Scoping Review of Wellbeing Frameworks

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Indigenous wellbeing theories offer potential to better measure social and cultural determinants. This scoping review aimed to identify the types of metrics used by the Australian government to assess wellbeing and evaluate the alignment of current frameworks against Indigenous and non‐Indigenous conceptualisations of wellbeing.

Carbohydrate Physicochemical Properties: The Innate Hydrogen Bond Donating Capacities of α‐Glucoside and α‐Galactoside Alcohol Groups

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Experimental determination of the innate hydrogen bond donating capacities of the glucose and galactose non‐anomeric alcohols revealed significant variations depending on position and relative configuration, which were quantified on the pKAHY scale, relevant for MedChem purposes, hence providing another tool toward rational glycomimetic development ...

Supporting Aged Care Worker Wellbeing: A Qualitative Document Analysis of the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aged care work is physically and emotionally demanding. Workers can feel disempowered, vulnerable and at increased risk of experiencing work‐related stress. This in turn can result in sub‐optimal care and staff shortages. This study aimed to investigate what provisions exist within Australia's strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards to ...

Metal‐Free Active Template: A Straightforward Route to 4‐Aminopyridinium‐Based Rotaxane Molecular Shuttles

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Leigh's metal‐free active template‐based SNAr of an amine on halogenopyridiniums, in the presence of a crown ether, successfully afforded 4‐aminopyridinium‐containing rotaxanes. Further molecular machinery was carried out by deprotonation‐then‐carbamoylation of the conjugated amino moiety.

Lung maneuvers of large amplitudes for probing physiological alterations in mouse models of asthma

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Lung maneuvers of small amplitudes, such as the ones performed in oscillometry, are the current gold standard to probe lung mechanics in animals, but they are insensitive to detect baseline physiological alterations in mouse models of asthma. Herein, lung maneuvers of different amplitudes were compared in two mouse models of asthma.

Color‐Pure Organic Luminophores: Characteristics, Definitions, Physical Basis and Fundamental Design Principles

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Color‐pure all‐organic emitters, i.e., with narrow spectral characteristics, are intensively studied for high‐definition organic LEDs and multi‐color bioimaging. In order to guide targeted materials design, this educative review discusses spectral characteristics, proper definitions and units, and the physical basis of spectral broadening, to distill ...
