The Composition of Fatty Acids in Frying Oils and the Hydrolysis during Deep Fat Frying
Soybean and hydrogenated soybean oils were treated by the water spraying and heating system as a model of deep fat frying in the presence or the absence of air. In the presence of air, the acid value of hydrogenated soybean oil increased very much as compared with that of soybean oil, but in the absence of air, the two oils showed almost the same ...

Making Mining Licit: Gold, Commodification, and the Everyday Performance of Law in Colombia
ABSTRACT Ethnographies of resource‐making have shown that the extraction of resource value from objects is premised on obviating the emplaced lifeworlds that surrounded objects before they traveled to consumer markets. Much of this literature looks at such supply‐chain disentanglement from the viewpoint of corporate and formal regulatory practices ...

Abstract Congenital aniridia is a rare genetic disorder primarily caused by pathogenic variants of the PAX6 gene. It leads to various panocular anomalies, including aniridia‐associated keratopathy (AAK). This review highlights recent insights into its pathogenesis, focusing on clinical staging, microstructural changes in the cornea and molecular ...

Food System Change, Development, and Vulnerability in Semi‐Agricultural Areas of Tibet
ABSTRACT With social and economic development, food systems have significantly changed on the Tibetan plateau over the last two decades. However, the impact of dietary change on Tibetans and their communities remains less well known. This article examines how food change happens in semi‐agricultural areas of eastern Tibet within the context of ...

Testing for Contagion in International Financial Markets: To See More, Go Higher
ABSTRACT Traditional measures of financial contagion rely on correlation shifts, overlooking higher moments such as skewness and kurtosis. We examine contagion during two major financial crises, incorporating lower‐ and higher‐moment measures. We analyze stock market returns from 22 major markets at different frequencies, offering a global perspective ...

Thermal Sensitivity of Some Plantain Micronutrients during Deep‐Fat Frying
ABSTRACT: The impact of deep‐fat frying on the micronutrient content of plantain ( Musa AAB “barraganete”) was evaluated during processing of plantain chips called “tostones.” Water content, micronutrients (potassium, L‐ascorbic acid, α‐carotene, β‐carotene) content, and ...

Sex‐Specific Atlantic Salmon Upstream Passage and Fallback at a Natural Cascade After Dam Removal
ABSTRACT In the Boquet River (NY, USA) a low‐head dam set above a ~200‐m bedrock cascade was removed in 2015. We used radio‐telemetry to assess landlocked Atlantic salmon passage at the remaining cascade (2020, 2022). Across years, 52% of males (13/25) attempted cascade passage whereas females made no discernable attempts (0/11).

Pathophysiology and emerging treatments for dermographic, cholinergic and cold urticaria
This review illustrates key proposed mast cell‐mediated activation pathways in dermographic, cholinergic and cold urticaria, highlighting IgE‐dependent and ‐independent mechanisms. These pathways are increasingly targeted by emerging drugs, aiming to interrupt mast cell activation and mediator release, offering more precise, mechanism‐based treatment ...
