A model for hydraulic redistribution incorporating coupled soil-root moisture transport [PDF]
International audienceOne of the adaptive strategies of vegetation, particularly in water limited ecosystems, is the development of deep roots and the use of hydraulic redistribution which enables them to make optimal use of resources available ...

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Spring phytoplankton of Lake Onego as a trophic resource for deep-water benthos
In the past few years the relict deep-water crustacean Monoporeia affinis (Lindström, 1855) has become less abundant in Lake Onego, Europe’s second largest lake. Further studies are needed, therefore, to better understand the formation of spring phytoplankton as food for deep-water benthos.

Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Water uptake in deep soil layers by tropical eucalypt plantations: consequences for water resources under climate change. [P117] [PDF]
Climate models predict that the frequency, intensity and duration of drought events will increase in tropical regions. Questions such as how planted forests will adapt to future constraints on water availability have broad implications for the supply of ...

Putative fishery-induced changes in biomass and population size structures of demersal deep-sea fishes in ICES Sub-area VII, Northeast Atlantic Ocean [PDF]
This work was supported by a series of NERC grants to the principal investigators including NE/C512961/1. The results of the early joint SAMS and IOS surveys were digitized with support from EU MAST Contract MAS2-CT920033 1993–1995, and data analyses was
