Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Search for light-to-heavy quark flavor changing neutral currents in $\nu _{\mu}N$ and $\bar{\nu}_{\mu}N$ scattering at the Tevatron

open access: yes, 2000
We report on a search for flavor-changing neutral-currents (FCNC) in the production of heavy quarks in deep inelastic $\nu_{\mu}N$ and $\bar{\nu}% _{\mu}N$ scattering by the NuTeV experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron.

Simulations of deep pencil-beam redshift surveys [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2001
We create mock pencil-beam redshift surveys from very large cosmological $N$-body simulations of two Cold Dark Matter cosmogonies, an Einstein-de Sitter model ($τ$CDM) and a flat model with $Ω_0 =0.3$ and a cosmological constant ($Λ$CDM). We use these to assess the significance of the apparent periodicity discovered by Broadhurst et al.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Hard exclusive processes with photons

open access: yes, 2007
Virtual photons have proven to be very efficient probes of the hadronic structure, mostly through deep inelastic scattering and related processes. The advent of high luminosity lepton beams has allowed to enlarge the studied processes to hard exclusive ...

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

The influence of palm kernel shell on the shear behaviour of reinforced concrete deep beams

open access: yesDiscover Civil Engineering
Rising construction costs and environmental concerns necessitate the exploration of sustainable alternatives for conventional building materials. This study investigates the influence of palm kernel shell (PKS) on the shear behaviour of reinforced ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Predictions for ASKAP Neutral Hydrogen Surveys

open access: yes, 2012
The Australian Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) will revolutionise our knowledge of gas-rich galaxies in the Universe. Here we present predictions for two proposed extragalactic ASKAP neutral hydrogen (HI) emission-line surveys, based on semi ...

Deep Inelastic Scattering with the SPS Muon Beam [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 2015
We review results from deep inelastic muon scattering experiments at the SPS which started in 1978, and are still actively pursued today. Key results include the precision measurement of scaling violations and of the strong coupling constant, spin-dependent structure functions, and studies of the internal spin structure of protons and neutrons.
