Joint‐specific measures improve risk adjustment in total knee arthroplasty: A machine learning approach

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Accurate risk adjustment in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is essential for outcome prediction and quality assessment. Most existing prediction models rely solely on patient demographics and comorbidities and do not account for joint‐specific pathology.

Non‐anatomical MPFL reconstruction and failure to address relevant pathologies are common reasons for treatment injuries following treatment for patellofemoral instability

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Management of patellofemoral instability (PFI) tailored to the individual patoanatomy can be complex with potential pitfalls. However, reports on complications and suboptimal outcomes remain limited. The aim of this study was to analyse problems related to PFI treatment in Denmark.

Revision ACL reconstruction using a modified iliotibial band–allograft technique for combined ACL and lateral extra‐articular procedure achieves comparable outcomes to bone–patellar tendon–bone with modified Lemaire

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose In revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (R‐ACLR), adding a lateral extra‐articular procedure (LEAP) reduces graft failure and postoperative laxity. Iliotibial band (ITB)‐based techniques may avoid patellar tendon harvesting morbidity, but evidence in adults, particularly in revision cases, remains limited.

Greater Cochlear Damage in Otogenic Versus Meningogenic Meningitis: Hearing Rehabilitation Implications

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Otogenic route of meningitis was associated with greater cochlear hair cell loss in comparison with the meningogenic one in this otopathology study. Neuronal depletion has been traditionally implicated in failed hearing rehabilitation of post‐meningitis deafness.

Impact of Heated Versus Unheated Cooking Oil on Postprandial Vascular Function and Metabolism

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The impact of repeated heating of seed‐based culinary oils on cardiometabolic health has not been well established. Heating oils to high temperatures (> 150°C) causes lipid peroxidation, thus generating potentially harmful compounds that may impair vascular function. This randomized, single‐blind, crossover study investigated the acute effects
