Localized resources enable noninvasive genetic monitoring of small populations of mountain ungulates
Using microsatellite analysis of fecal samples collected at mineral licks from 2019–2022, we assessed abundance, apparent survival and genetics of bighorn sheep in the Teton Range, Wyoming, USA. Annual abundance estimates ranged from 118−132 individuals split into 2 similar‐sized demes and apparent survival estimates ranged from 0.72–0.92.

Apex predators exploit advantageous snow conditions across hunting modes
Advantageous snow conditions—in terms of snow depth and density—are among the most important features of the winter landscape for two apex predators, regardless of hunting strategy. In a warming climate, the knock‐on effects of a diminishing snowpack may reduce the hunting success of multiple large carnivore species.
