Potential role of masting by introduced bamboos in deer mice (Peromyscus maniculatus) population irruptions holds public health consequences.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
We hypothesized that the ongoing naturalization of frost/shade tolerant Asian bamboos in North America could cause environmental consequences involving introduced bamboos, native rodents and ultimately humans.

Question the Mark: A Review and Assessment of Bat Marking Practices

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 1, March 2026.
We reviewed a decade of research on bats and conducted a broader systematic review to assess the nature of bat marking practices and the effects and efficacy of marks. Effects of marks on bats, mark details and marking procedures are rarely reported and further research on the effects of marks on bats and more thorough reporting are needed.

Diffusion and Home Range Parameters from Rodent Population Measurements in Panama

open access: yes, 2005
Simple random walk considerations are used to interpret rodent population data collected in Hantavirus-related investigations in Panama regarding the short-tailed cane mouse, \emph{Zygodontomys brevicauda}.

Investigating the Potential Consequences of Woodland Creation for British Mammal Populations

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 1, March 2026.
We simulated the conversion of suitable areas in the UK to woodland, according to the current and target woodland creation rates, and assessed how this would affect habitat availability and potential population sizes of British mammals. We predicted that most assessed mammals would benefit or be unaffected by planned woodland creation, but some ...

Patatin‐domain‐containing (phospho)lipases under control: Mammalian co‐regulators and pathogenic activation mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 279-298, February 2026.
Patatin domain‐containing (phospho)lipases are lipid‐hydrolyzing enzymes central to metabolism, membrane remodeling, and signaling. Their activity relies on precise co‐activation mechanisms involving protein–protein interactions and conformational rearrangements.

The Genetic and Morphological Basis of Local Adaptation to Elevational Extremes in an Alpine Finch

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We investigated morphological and genetic variation in the Sierra Nevada Gray‐crowned Rosy Finch to identify traits important for local adaptation in alpine environments. By combining trait measurements with genome‐wide analyses, we uncovered loci linked to thermoregulation, altitude adaptation, and cold tolerance.

Improving hospital nutrition care through “Indigenous cultural safety” of menu options: Results of a cross‐sectional survey of Indigenous people in Western Canada

open access: yesNutrition in Clinical Practice, Volume 41, Issue 1, Page 266-277, February 2026.
Abstract Background Hospital nutrition services rarely offer Indigenous‐specific menu options, an essential element of delivering “Indigenous cultural safety” in nutrition care to Indigenous patients. Methods Indigenous participants (n = 370) completed a semistructured Indigenous Food Ways survey (paper‐based and online) from 2021 to 2022 as part of ...
