A tutorial on default reasoning
Default reasoning is concerned with making inferences in cases where the information at hand is incomplete. In such cases it is necessary to make plausible assumptions, which in default reasoning are based on default rules. This paper gives an introduction to the field. It discusses in depth one particular approach, default logic, including properties,

Meta Level Reasoning and Default Reasoning
In this paper, we propose a logic framework for meta level reasoning as well as default reasoning in a general sense, based on an arbitrary underlying logic. In this framework, meta level reasoning is the task of how to deduce new meta level rules by giving a set of rules, whilst default reasoning is the problem of what are the possible candidate ...

The dynamics of default reasoning
Data and Knowledge Engineering, 1997Summary: We study default reasoning from a dynamic, agent-oriented, semantics-based point of view. In a formal framework used to specify and to reason about rational agents, we introduce actions that model the (attempted) jumping to conclusions that is a fundamental part of reasoning by default.

Default reasoning and possibility theory
This note discusses an approach, recently outlined by \textit{R. R. Yager} [ibid. 31, 99-112 (1987; Zbl 0624.68083)], to default reasoning based on possibility theory. Some limitations of his technique are pointed out, and remedied in the same theoretical framework.
