Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Mutation screening of the USH2A gene reveals two novel pathogenic variants in Chinese patients causing simplex usher syndrome 2

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2020
Background Usher syndrome (USH) is the most prevalent cause of the human genetic deafness and blindness. USH type II (USH2) is the most common form of USH, and USH2A is the major pathogenic gene for USH2. For expanding the spectrum of USH2A mutations and

Down‐regulation of Shh in the hair follicles of mice during chemotherapy‐induced hair loss is mediated by the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We found that during chemotherapy‐induced alopecia (CIA), Sonic hedgehog (Shh) expression significantly decreased in hair follicle Shh+ cells, whereas the Janus‐activated kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (JAK/STAT1) signaling pathway was markedly activated.

Morita equivalence classes of 2-blocks of defect three [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We give a complete description of the Morita equivalence classes of blocks with elementary abelian defect groups of order 8 and of the derived equivalences between them.

Universal conductance reduction in a quantum wire

open access: yes, 2003
Even a single point defect in a quantum wire causes a conductance reduction. In this paper we prove (without any approximations) that for any point impurity this conductance reduction in all the sub-bands is exactly 2e^2/h.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Placental weight may influence preeclampsia or eclampsia risk through modulating lipid metabolism: a mediation Mendelian randomization analysis

open access: yesThe Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine
Introduction Preeclampsia/eclampsia (PE/E) is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality and is closely linked to placental dysfunction and maternal metabolic disturbance.

Impurity-induced bound states inside the superconducting gap of FeSe

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate the local density of states in the vicinity of a native dumbbell defect arising from an Fe vacancy in FeSe single crystals. The tunneling spectra close to the impurity display two bound states inside the superconducting gap, equally spaced

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

Development and Validation of Novel Diagnostic Models for Biliary Atresia in a Large Cohort of Chinese PatientsResearch in Context

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2018
Background & aims: The overlapping features of biliary atresia (BA) and the other forms of neonatal cholestasis (NC) with different causes (non-BA) has posed challenges for the diagnosis of BA.
