Confinement of electrons in size modulated silicon nanowires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Based on first-principles calculations we showed that superlattices of periodically repeated junctions of hydrogen saturated silicon nanowire segments having different lengths and diameters form multiple quantum well structures.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Hexagonal Microstrip MIMO Antenna with Defected Ground Structures for ISM/IoT Application

open access: yesMajlesi Journal of Electrical Engineering
In this manuscript, an original multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) array antenna is proposed. The proposed array consists of two mirror-image elements placed adjacently.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Flexible Design Method for Microstrip Bandstop, Highpass, and Bandpass Filters Using Similar Defected Ground Structures

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
It is well known that the typical low-pass characteristics can be obtained by a cascaded structure of alternating high- and low-impedance transmission-line (TL) segments. On the contrary, this paper focus on modifying this stepped impedance TLs to obtain

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Electronic structure and the glass transition in pnictide and chalcogenide semiconductor alloys. Part II: The intrinsic electronic midgap states

open access: yes, 2010
We propose a structural model that treats in a unified fashion both the atomic motions and electronic excitations in quenched melts of pnictide and chalcogenide semiconductors. In Part I (submitted to J. Chem.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Study of solid 4He in two dimensions. The issue of zero-point defects and study of confined crystal

open access: yes, 2012
Defects are believed to play a fundamental role in the supersolid state of 4He. We report on studies by exact Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations at zero temperature of the properties of solid 4He in presence of many vacancies, up to 30 in two ...
