In Defense of DEFECT

Games and Economic Behavior, 2002
In the \textit{machine game} invented by \textit{A. Rubinstein} [J. Econ. Theory 39, 83--96 (1986; Zbl 0606.68050)], two players pick a finite automaton each and let the automata play a repeated game of Prisoners' Dilemma against each other. In the paper under review, the author considers machine games with a payoff function based on expected mean ...

Switching on Photocatalysis of Metal-Organic Frameworks by Engineering Structural Defects.

Angewandte Chemie, 2019
Defect engineering is a versatile approach to modulate band and electronic structures as well as materials performance yet remain sophisticated. Herein, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) featuring controlled structural defects, namely UiO-66-NH2-X (X ...

Carbon defects and defect reactions in silicon

Physical Review Letters, 1990
The energies of carbon defects in silicon are calculated, using an empirical classical potential, and used to infer defect properties and reactions. Substitutional carbon is found to react with silicon interstitials, with the carbon ``kicked out'' to form a (100) split interstitial.

How defective are “defective” explanted valves?

2013
Objective: In shunt papers the causes for shunt revisions such as ventricular/distal catheter occlusion, migration, infection, were specified. These factors are selfevident or can be checked with simple methods (flushing, watercolumn). The same is true for visible valve lesions: body ruptures, [for full text, please go to the a.m. URL]

Defect classification and defect types revisited

Proceedings of the 2008 workshop on Defects in large software systems, 2008
There have been various attempts to establish common defect classification systems in standards, academia and industry. The resulted classifications are partly similar but also contain variations and none of which is accepted as a basic tool in software projects.

Influence of defects, surface roughness and HIP on the fatigue strength of Ti-6Al-4V manufactured by additive manufacturing

International Journal of Fatigue, 2018
The additive manufacturing (AM) is expected to be a promising manufacturing process for high strength or hard steels such as Ti-6Al-4V for the aerospace industry components having complex shapes.

Defect prevention with orthogonal defect classification

Proceedings of the 2nd India software engineering conference, 2009
"Learning from the past" to make systems more efficient in terms of cost and time is the hallmark of any engineering discipline. Prevention of defects is the "holy grail" of "learning's from the past" i.e. every product generation we learn from our defects and prevent it from recurring in the next generation.

Defects and Defect Processes

1989
The mechanisms of materials modification by ion beams exploit defects and defect processes. This paper surveys the principal point defects in ionic crystals and semiconductors and at their surfaces, and summarises their properties in relation to such mechanisms.

Defects and Defect Bifurcations

1997
In Chapter 1 we saw how the behavior of complex systems can be described by simple amplitude equations near primary spatial and temporal instabilities. These equations are found either by the adiabatic elimination of stable modes or by projecting the original dynamical system on its center manifold and removing non-secular terms in the resulting ...

Defects and Defect Processes in GaN

2003
Abstract : Optically detected electron paramagnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy have been used to probe the microscopic properties of defects in GaN. Irradiation of GaN by 2.5 MeV electrons, in situ at 4.2 K, produces two ODEPR signals that have been assigned to interstitial Ga in two distinct configurations. Models for these configurations and
