Small-scale spatial analysis of intermediate and definitive hosts of Angiostrongylus cantonensis

open access: yesInfectious Diseases of Poverty, 2018
Background Angiostrongyliasis is a food-borne parasitic zoonosis. Human infection is caused by infection with the third-stage larvae of Angiostrongylus cantonensis. The life cycle of A.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Comprehensive diagnostic approaches to feline toxoplasmosis: Bridging traditional methods and emerging technologies

open access: yesVirulence
Toxoplasma gondii is a globally distributed intracellular parasite, with felids serving as its definitive hosts and playing a central role in environmental contamination through oocyst shedding.

Second intermediate host land snails and definitive host animals of Brachylaima cribbi in southern Australia

open access: yesParasite, 2005
This study of infection of southern Australian land snails with Brachylaima cribbi metacercariae has shown that all commonly encountered native and introduced snails are susceptible second intermediate hosts.

A Unified Definition of Hosting Capacity, Applications, and Review

open access: yesIEEE Access
Over the past decade, the landscape of distribution network hosting capacity has been extensively explored through numerous studies. However, a notable gap remains in the absence of a standardised and universally accepted generic definition. Bridging this gap, this paper provides a comprehensive and unified definition of the hosting capacity concept ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Manipulative parasites may not alter intermediate host distribution but still enhance their transmission: field evidence for increased vulnerability to definitive hosts and non-host predator avoidance.

open access: yes, 2013
8 pagesInternational audienceBehavioural alterations induced by parasites in their intermediate hosts can spatially structure host populations, possibly resulting in enhanced trophic transmission to definitive hosts.

RNA sequencing reveals dynamic expression of genes related to innate immune responses in canine small intestinal epithelial cells induced by Echinococcus granulosus protoscoleces

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
BackgroundDogs are definitive hosts of Echinococcus granulosus, with the small intestine being the only site of parasitic infections. However, the immunomodulatory processes that occur during interactions between E.
