Well-posedness for a class of nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper we obtain well-posedness for a class of semilinear weakly degenerate reaction-diffusion systems with Robin boundary conditions. This result is obtained through a Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation inequality and some embedding results for ...

Local Central Limit Theorem for diffusions in a degenerate and unbounded Random Medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We study a symmetric diffusion $X$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$ in divergence form in a stationary and ergodic environment, with measurable unbounded and degenerate coefficients.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Sharp forced waves of degenerate diffusion equations in shifting environments

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis
This article is concerned with the sharp forced waves for degenerate diffusion equations in a shifting environment. The degeneracy of diffusion usually causes the forced waves to become sharp.

Stationary States and Asymptotic Behaviour of Aggregation Models with Nonlinear Local Repulsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We consider a continuum aggregation model with nonlinear local repulsion given by a degenerate power-law diffusion with general exponent. The steady states and their properties in one dimension are studied both analytically and numerically, suggesting ...

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Pattern formation driven by cross--diffusion in a 2D domain

open access: yes, 2012
In this work we investigate the process of pattern formation in a two dimensional domain for a reaction-diffusion system with nonlinear diffusion terms and the competitive Lotka-Volterra kinetics. The linear stability analysis shows that cross-diffusion,

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Quantum diffusion of dipole-oriented indirect excitons in coupled quantum wells

open access: yes, 2002
A model for diffusion of statistically-degenerate excitons in (coupled) quantum wells is proposed and analysed. Within a microscopic approach, we derive a quantum diffusion equation, calculate and estimate the self-diffusion coefficient for excitons in ...

Dirichlet regularity and degenerate diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 2010
The authors investigate the problem: when a natural realization of the operator \(m \Delta\) in \(C_0 (\Omega): = \{ u \in C (\bar{\Omega}) : u |_{\partial \Omega}= 0 \}\) generates a \(C_0\)-semigroup. Here \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^{N}\) is an open bounded set and \(m : \Omega \to (0, \infty)\) is measurable and locally bounded.
