Degree of paraxiality of coherent and partially coherent Airy beams

Optics & Laser Technology, 2013
Abstract According to the definition of the degree of paraxiality for a monochromatic light beam, analytical expressions for the degree of paraxiality of coherent and partially coherent Airy beams are derived. Numerical results show that the degree of paraxiality of coherent and partially coherent Airy beams is determined not only by the ...

Complex Gaussian representations of partially coherent beams with nonconventional degrees of coherence

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2017
We adopt the recently introduced complex Gaussian function to expand the partially coherent beams with nonconventional degrees of coherence, and derive detailed representations of Hermite-Gaussian correlated Schell-model beam, elliptical Laguerre-Gaussian correlated Schell-model beam, and multi-Gaussian correlated Schell-model beam.

Coherency matrix formulation for partially coherent imaging to evaluate the degree of coherence for image

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2012
This paper defines a matrix from which coherence property of imaging by partially coherent Koehler illumination is determined. The matrix termed coherency matrix in imaging system is derived by the space average of a product of a column vector and its transpose conjugate where each row of the column vector represents mutually incoherent light.

The Degrees of Freedom of the Oversampled Non-Coherent Channel

2018 IEEE Information Theory Workshop (ITW), 2018
The degrees of freedom of a class of discrete-time non-coherent channels with oversampling, termed the Oversampled Non-Coherent (ONC) channel, are shown. The ONC channel is obtained from the classic continuous-time AWGN channel by considering the scenario in which the channel output is also corrupted by phase noise (PN) and processed by a multi-sample ...

Turbulence-induced changes in degree of polarization, degree of coherence and spectrum of partially coherent electromagnetic beams

Chinese Physics B, 2010
Based on a recently formulated unified theory of coherence and polarization, a method is described to study turbulence-induced changes in the polarization, the coherence and the spectrum of partially coherent electromagnetic beams on propagation.

Expansion of complex degree of coherence

Il Nuovo Cimento B, 1979
In this paper we establish an expansion of complex degree of coherence by using the properties that we can obtain from its definition. In the third section we utilize this expansion for studying the problem of object reconstruction; we conclude that, if the optical system fulfils some conditions, it is possible to construct, in an unique way, the ...

Two-time coherence of pulse trains and the integrated degree of temporal coherence

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2015
We examine the temporal coherence properties of trains of nonidentical short optical pulses in the framework of the second-order coherence theory of nonstationary light. Considering Michelson's interferometric measurement of temporal coherence, we demonstrate that time-resolved interferograms reveal the full two-time temporal coherence function of the ...

Relation between degrees of coherence for electromagnetic fields

Optics Letters, 2007
In terms of the electric spectral density tensors associated with a random electromagnetic field, it is shown that, under certain conditions, a link can be established between two definitions of the degree of coherence for electromagnetic beams introduced not long ago by Wolf [Phys. Lett. A312, 263 (2003)] and by Setälä [Opt. Lett.29, 328 (2004)]. This

Improvement of the Degree of Spatial Coherence in a Michelson Interferometer

Applied Optics, 1967
The visibility of fringes of equal thickness of an approximately plane parallel plate illuminated by a quasi-monochromatic primary source is expressed in terms of the degree of longitudinal spatial coherence, i.e., the coherence of two points lying on a normal to the source.

Experimental generation of partially coherent beams with different complex degrees of coherence

Optics Letters, 2013
We established an experimental setup for generating partially coherent beams with different complex degrees of coherence, and we report experimental generation of an elliptical Gaussian Schell-model (GSM) beam and a Laguerre-GSM beam for the first time.
