Mass Transfer and Chemical Reaction Approach of the Kinetics of the Acetylation of Gadung Flour using Glacial Acetic Acid

open access: yesBulletin of Chemical Reaction Engineering & Catalysis, 2015
Acetylation is one of the common methods of modifying starch properties by introducing acetil (CH3CO) groups to starch molecules at low temperatures. While most acetylation is conducted using starch as anhidroglucose source and acetic anhydride or vinyl ...

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

31 Caracterización funcional de almidón catiónico de yuca ( Manihot esculenta )

open access: yesRevista Ion, 2013
Cationic starches were obtained from native starch extracted from cassava of three different varieties at different temperatures (28-50°C) and reaction times (7-24h) using 2,3-epoxypropyltrimethylammonium (EPTAC) as cationizing reactive and NaOH as ...

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

An Estimate of the Elasticity of Intertemporal Substitution in a Production Economy [PDF]

open access: yes
The elasticity of intertemporal substitution (EIS) at the macro level has been estimated mostly based on endowment economy models and these estimates are very sensitive to the choice of interest rates that are used for estimation.

From junk to function — How weak selection in eukaryotes builds new parts and drives genomic complexity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...
