Evaluating the risk of phthalate and non-phthalate plasticizers in dust samples from 100 Japanese houses

open access: yesEnvironment International
Phthalates are widely used as plasticizer and associated with various health issues. Recently, non-phthalate plasticizers are replacing phthalates; however, the exposure to these substances and the risk in Japan is unclear. In this study, we assessed the

Operando Detection of Lithium Plating and Stripping in Fast‐Charging Li‐Ion Cells with a Reference Electrode

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, Volume 8, Issue 10, October 2025.
In this study, a referenceelectrode is incorporated into cells to investigate aging under differentcharging regimes. The results show that fast charging leads to lithiumplating, which can be detected by changes in the incremental capacity profileand post‐mortem analysis.

Developmental neurotoxicity evaluation of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) and three alternative plasticizers in human neurospheres

open access: yesEnvironment International
Plasticizers like di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) are commonly used in medical devices to enhance plastic flexibility. DEHP is classified as a CMR1b substance due to its adverse effects on reproduction and fertility, and it has been linked to ...

Increasing Redox Potential of Pyromellitic Diimide by Chemical Modifications: Toward High‐Voltage Organic Positive Electrode for Lithium Battery

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2025.
Chemical modifications of soluble pyromellitic diimide derivatives with bromo‐ and cyano‐ electron‐withdrawing groups instead of hydrogen lead to an increase of redox potential of 210 and 420 mV respectively compared to the reference. Lithium batteries are considered as the most promising electricity storage solution to support the energy transition ...

Phthalates, non-phthalate plasticizers and bisphenols in Swedish preschool dust in relation to children's exposure

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2017
Children are exposed to a wide range of chemicals in their everyday environments, including the preschool. In this study, we evaluated the levels of phthalates, non-phthalate plasticizers and bisphenols in dust from 100 Swedish preschools and identified ...

Detailed Characterization of Thermal Runaway Particle Emissions from a Prismatic NMC622 Lithium-Ion Battery

open access: yesBatteries
Particles ejected during thermal runaway (TR) of lithium-ion batteries carry a significant fraction of the total TR energy and can cause danger to other components in the battery system.

Reduction of hazardous chemicals in Swedish preschool dust through article substitution actions

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2019
Consumer goods and building materials present in the preschool environment can be important sources of hazardous chemicals, such as plasticizers, bisphenols, organophosphorus and brominated flame retardants, poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances, which may

Hybrid Ceramic Polymer Electrolytes Enabling Long Cycling in Practical 1 Ah‐Class High‐Voltage Solid‐State Batteries with Li Metal Anode

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 34, Issue 42, October 15, 2024.
1 Ah high‐voltage lithium polymer batteries with hybrid ceramic polymer electrolyte, lithium metal anode, and NMC‐811 cathode. Li||Li symmetric cells cycle for over 1000 h at a capacity of 2 mAh cm−2. Pouch cells with 1 Ah capacity achieve energy density of nearly 250 Wh kg−1 and 80% capacity retention after 110 cycles.

Review: Insights on Hard Carbon Materials for Sodium‐Ion Batteries (SIBs): Synthesis – Properties – Performance Relationships

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 14, Issue 19, May 17, 2024.
This work provides a comprehensive view of the optimal design of hard carbon anodes and the key properties to improve their performance in sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs). Several synthesis‐property‐performance relationships are established and insights into Na‐ion storage mechanisms and solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation are provided.

Ongoing exposure to endocrine disrupting phthalates and alternative plasticizers in neonatal intensive care unit patients

open access: yesEnvironment International
Due to endocrine disrupting effects, di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), a plasticizer used to soften plastic medical devices, was restricted in the EU Medical Devices Regulation (EU MDR 2017/745) and gradually replaced by alternative plasticizers ...
