Enzymatic Logic Gates with Noise-Reducing Sigmoid Response [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Unconventional Computing 6, 451-460 (2010), 2009
Biochemical computing is an emerging field of unconventional computing that attempts to process information with biomolecules and biological objects using digital logic. In this work we survey filtering in general, in biochemical computing, and summarize the experimental realization of an AND logic gate with sigmoid response in one of the inputs.

Hexose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase modulates the effect of inhibitors and alternative substrates of 11[beta]-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Intracellular glucocorticoid reactivation is catalyzed by 11[beta]-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (11[beta]-HSD1), which functions predominantly as a reductase in cells expressing hexose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (H6PDH).

FEM1B enhances TRAIL‐induced apoptosis in T lymphocytes and monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
FEM1B facilitates TRAIL‐induced apoptosis through distinct mechanisms in T lymphocytes and monocytes. In T lymphocytes, FEM1B engages with TRAF2, leading to a reduction in TRAF2 expression, which subsequently lessens TRAF2's inhibitory influence on caspase‐8.

Divergent functions for airway epithelial matrix metalloproteinase 7 and retinoic acid in experimental asthma. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The innate immune response of airway epithelial cells to airborne allergens initiates the development of T cell responses that are central to allergic inflammation.

Plasmids in the aphid endosymbiont Buchnera aphidicola with the smallest genomes. A puzzling evolutionary story.

open access: yes, 2006
Buchnera aphidicola, the primary endosymbiont of aphids, has undergone important genomic and biochemical changes as an adaptation to intracellular life.

GDP‐fucose transporter SLC35C1: a potential regulatory role in cytosolic GDP‐fucose and fucosylated glycan synthesis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inactivation of SLC35C1 (GDP‐fucose transporter) and enzymes involved in GDP‐fucose biosynthesis was studied. Fucose supplementation increases the level of GDP‐fucose to abnormal, millimolar values in the absence of the TSTA3 protein and SLC35C1 in contrast to the GMDS/SLC35C1 double mutant.

Microbial activity in different soils in response to metribuzin treatment [PDF]

open access: yesPesticidi i Fitomedicina, 2019
The effect of metribuzin on soil microorganisms and their enzymatic activity, as well as the amount of metribuzin residues, greatly depend on the type of soil and its physico-chemical properties.

Dependence of Substrate Irradiation Reaction Rate Stimulation on Lactic Dehydrogenase Source [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Stimulation of LDH initial reaction rates by timed pre-irradiation of crystalline sodium pyruvate and lithium lactate is reported for enzymes isolated from rabbit muscle, pig heart, human erythrocytes and chicken heart. The phenomenon investigated is referred to as the Comorosan effect.
