Most tumors display enhanced glucose metabolism compared to normal tissues [1-6]. The preferential conversion of glucose to lactate in cancer cells (the Warburg Effect) was one of the first known differences between tumor and normal cells and is believed

Michael hydratase alcohol dehydrogenase or just alcohol dehydrogenase? [PDF]
The Michael hydratase - alcohol dehydrogenase (MhyADH) from Alicycliphilus denitrificans was previously identified as a bi-functional enzyme performing a hydration of α,β-unsaturated ketones and subsequent oxidation of the formed alcohols. The investigations of the bi-functionality were based on a spectrophotometric assay and an activity staining in a ...

Proteomic and phosphoproteomic analyses were performed on lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) tumors with EGFR, KRAS, or EML4–ALK alterations and wild‐type cases. Distinct protein expression and phosphorylation patterns were identified, especially in EGFR‐mutated tumors. Key altered pathways included vesicle transport and RNA splicing.

Impact of Bt-cotton on soil microbiological and biochemical attributes
Transgenic Bt-cotton produces Bt-toxins (Cry proteins) which may accumulate and persist in soil due to their binding ability on soil components. In the present study, the potential impacts of Bt- and non-Bt genotypes of cotton on soil microbial activity,

Structural basis for cellobiose dehydrogenase action during oxidative cellulose degradation
A new paradigm for cellulose depolymerization by fungi focuses on an oxidative mechanism involving cellobiose dehydrogenases (CDH) and copper-dependent lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMO); however, mechanistic studies have been hampered by the ...

PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Impact of transgenic cottons expressing cry1Ac on soil biological attributes
Three transgenic Bt cotton hybrids (RCH-2 Bt, Bunny Bt and NHH 44 Bt) expressing cry1Ac gene were evaluated for their effects on soil biological, microbiological and diversity attributes at 0-15 cm and 15-30 cm soil depth under field conditions.

This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Influence of gap creation on soil enzymes activity in an oriental beech stand (Case study: Langa control plot) [PDF]
Gaps within forest canopy cause changes in the received amount (intensity) and quality (PAR) of incoming light on forest ground. This research was performed in natural gaps of a reserve control compartment at Kelardasht region in Mazandaran, northern ...
