Time-Delay Polaritonics

open access: yes, 2020
Non-linearity and finite signal propagation speeds are omnipresent in nature, technologies, and real-world problems, where efficient ways of describing and predicting the effects of these elements are in high demand.

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Long non‐coding RNAs as therapeutic targets in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and clinical application

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) occupy an abundant fraction of the eukaryotic transcriptome and an emerging area in cancer research. Regulation by lncRNAs is based on their subcellular localization in HNSCC. This cartoon shows the various functions of lncRNAs in HNSCC discussed in this review.

Hopf bifurcations in a three-species food chain system with multiple delays

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2017
This paper is concerned with a three-species Lotka-Volterra food chain system with multiple delays. By linearizing the system at the positive equilibrium and analyzing the associated characteristic equation, the stability of the positive equilibrium and ...

Representation of Networks and Systems with Delay: DDEs, DDFs, ODE-PDEs and PIEs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Delay-Differential Equations (DDEs) are the most common representation for systems with delay. However, the DDE representation is limited. In network models with delay, the delayed channels are low-dimensional and accounting for this heterogeneity is not possible in the DDE framework.

Matrigel inhibits elongation and drives endoderm differentiation in aggregates of mouse embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Stem cell‐based embryo models (SCBEMs) are valuable to study early developmental milestones. Matrigel, a basement membrane matrix, is a critical substrate used in various SCBEM protocols, but its role in driving stem cell lineage commitment is not clearly defined.

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline
