Delayed Cerebral Ischemia after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, 2021Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is the most feared complication of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). It increases the mortality and morbidity associated with aSAH. Previously, large cerebral artery vasospasm was thought to be the sole major contributing factor associated with increased risk of DCI. Recent literature has challenged this concept.

Dynamic Detection of Delayed Cerebral Ischemia
Stroke, 2021Background and Purpose: Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage negatively impacts long-term recovery but is often detected too late to prevent damage. We aim to develop hourly risk scores using routinely collected clinical data to detect DCI.

Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, 2021
Introduction: Survival from aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage has increased in the past few decades. However, functional outcome after subarachnoid hemorrhage is still suboptimal. Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is one of the major causes of morbidity.Areas covered: Mechanisms underlying vasospasm and DCI after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and ...

Therapies for Delayed Cerebral Ischemia in Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Neurocritical Care, 2023Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is one of the most important complications of subarachnoid hemorrhage. Despite lack of prospective evidence, medical rescue interventions for DCI include hemodynamic augmentation using vasopressors or inotropes, with limited guidance on specific blood pressure and hemodynamic parameters.

Cerebral Vasospasm and Delayed Cerebral Ischemia in Intraventricular Hemorrhage
Neurocritical Care, 2013Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) with intraventricular extension (IVH) is a devastating disease with a particular high mortality. In some aspects, IVH may resemble subarachnoid hemorrhage. The incidence and role of cerebral vasospasm in ICH with IVH are poorly understood.

Intracranial Multimodality Monitoring for Delayed Cerebral Ischemia
Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, 2016Management of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage focuses on prevention of rebleeding by early treatment of the aneurysm, as well as detection and management of neurologic and medical complications. Early detection of delayed cerebral ischemia and management of modifiable contributing causes such as vasospasm take a central role, with the ...

Prediction of Delayed Cerebral Ischemia with Cerebral Angiography: A Meta-Analysis
Neurocritical Care, 2018Cerebral catheter angiography is the gold standard for diagnosing cerebral artery vasospasm (vasospasm) in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). We have previously published a meta-analysis of prediction of delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) from transcranial Doppler (TCD) evidence of vasospasm.

The Pathophysiology of Delayed Cerebral Ischemia
Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, 2016Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) affects 30,000 people in the Unites States alone each year. Delayed cerebral ischemia occurs days after subarachnoid hemorrhage and represents a potentially treatable cause of morbidity for approximately one-third of those who survive the initial hemorrhage.

Cerebral vasospasm and delayed cerebral ischemia: Review of literature and the management approach
Neurology India, 2019This article highlights the pathogenesis and management of cerebral vasospasm. It discusses the various pharmacological, endovascular, and neurosurgical approaches available for the treatment of cerebral vasospasm. Numerous drugs and procedures have been tried and tested in the management of cerebral vasospasm.

OBJECTIVEDelayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) may result in focal neurological deficits and cerebral infarction, believed to result from critical regional rather than global impairments in cerebral blood flow (CBF). However, the burden of such regional hypoperfusion has not been evaluated by gold-standard voxel-by-voxel ...
