Induction of labour and the mode of delivery at term

open access: yesJournal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 2011
This is a retrospective cohort study to establish the effect of induction of labour (IOL) on the mode of delivery for term pregnancy. Studied population included 11,660 deliveries and out of these, 8,314 were normal vaginal deliveries; 1,775 instrumental deliveries and 1,571 emergency caesarean sections. The frequency of IOL was 23.6%.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

CO2 emissions and delivery time of last‐mile drone delivery using trucks

open access: yesIET Intelligent Transport Systems
The shift in consumer behaviour from in‐person to online shopping has led to an increase in parcel delivery volume and its associated negative impacts, such as CO2 emissions in cities.

Future prospects for gene delivery systems

open access: yes, 2017
Introduction: Gene therapy is the challenging area of biotechnology. Despite its promise for critical diseases, it has serious safety and efficiency issues, particularly with regards to gene transfer systems.

Costs and effects of two public sector delivery channels for long-lasting insecticidal nets in Uganda. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
BACKGROUND: In Uganda, long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN) have been predominantly delivered through two public sector channels: targeted campaigns or routine antenatal care (ANC) services. Their combination in a mixed-model strategy is being advocated

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Vaginal delivery versus cesarean section for term breech delivery

open access: yesVojnosanitetski pregled, 2010
Background/Aim. The optimal method of delivery for breech presentation at term still remains a matter of controversy. This is probably due to the fact that the skills of vaginal breech delivery are being lost. The aim of this study was to examine risk factors: mother's age, parity, labor's duration, estimated neonatal birth weight for the mode of ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Chitosan based hydrogels for transmucosal drug delivery

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this thesis was the formulation of new chitosan based delivery systems for transmucosal drug administration. Transmucosal routes, such as buccal, vaginal and nasal routes, allow the circumvention of the hepatic first pass metabolism and avoid ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
