Behavioral modeling of delta–sigma modulators

Computer Standards & Interfaces, 1998
Abstract This paper presents an overview of DelSi, a MATLAB toolbox developed for the design and simulation of delta–sigma modulators. The DelSi toolbox can synthesize a stable noise-transfer function for complex network structures. The modelling tool consists of two c / c ++ programs, sdMod.c, a single stage delta–sigma modulator and firfilt.c, a

Digital correlator using delta-sigma modulation

IEE Proceedings G (Electronic Circuits and Systems), 1985
A digital correlator is designed and implemented using a special type of instantaneously companded delta-sigma modulation to encode one of the input signals, and a special type of ADC to encode the other. The multiplication process is greatly simplified using this technique, and it is found by computer simulation of the system that the output signal ...

Sensitivity analysis of delta-sigma modulators

CCECE '97. Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering. Engineering Innovation: Voyage of Discovery. Conference Proceedings, 2002
This paper presents the formulation of sensitivity networks for delta-sigma modulators. The sensitivity of the output magnitude with respect to any circuit elements is obtained. The method is fast because some parts of the computations are performed only once, in a pre-processing step.

Spur-Free MASH Delta-Sigma Modulation

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Regular Papers, 2010
For multistage noise-shaping (MASH) delta-sigma modulation, this paper presents a new structure that is free of spurs for all input values. The proposed MASH structure cascades several first-order delta-sigma modulators (DSMs) like the traditional MASH structure but has an additional feedforward connection between two adjacent stages. The proposed MASH

All optical binary delta-sigma modulator

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
This paper describes a novel A/D converter called "Binary Delta-Sigma Modulator" (BDSM) which operates only with nonnegative signal with positive feedback and binary threshold. This important modification to the conventional delta-sigma modulator makes the high-speed (>100GHz) all-optical implementation possible.

Wideband Topology for Delta-Sigma Modulators

IEEE Solid-State Circuits Magazine, 2013
This paper is meant as a tribute to Professor Temes. It describes the background for, and several key advantages of, the so-called "wideband topology" for delta-sigma modulators that the author has published in collaboration with Professor Temes.

Space-time vector delta-sigma modulation

2002 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems. Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37353), 2003
Classical delta-sigma modulation gains resolution through temporal oversampling by using a high-speed, low-resolution quantizer and shaping the resulting quantization errors out of the signal band. Likewise, spatial delta-sigma modulation is often used in image halftoning to create high-visual-quality binary images.

Delta-sigma modulators using frequency-modulated intermediate values

IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 1997
This paper describes a new first- and second-order delta-sigma modulator concept where the first integrator is extracted and implemented by a frequency modulator with the modulating signal as the input. The result is a simple delta-sigma modulator with no need for digital-to-analog converters, allowing straightforward multibit quantization. Without the

Nonlinear Settling in Delta-Sigma Modulators

1998
High linearity in data converters is an important feature for various applications such as instrumentation and data acquisition. However, a good handle on nonlinear effects is impaired by the lack of analytical models. This situation is worsened by the fact that nonlinearities from different origins contribute to the overall nonlinearity of the ...
