SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern surveillance including Omicron using RT-PCR–based genotyping offers comparable performance to whole genome sequencing

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2022
Known SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) can be detected and differentiated using an RT-PCR–based genotyping approach, which offers quicker time to result, lower cost, higher flexibility, and use of the same laboratory instrumentation for detection of

On $\Delta$-Transforms [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Robotics, 2009
Any set of two legs in a Gough-Stewart platform sharing an attachment is defined as a Delta component. This component links a point in the platform (base) to a line in the base (platform). Thus, if the two legs, which are involved in a Delta component, are rearranged without altering the location of the line and the point in their base and platform ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The Out-of-the-Delta Hypothesis: dense human populations in low-lying river deltas served as agents for the evolution of a deadly pathogen

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
Cholera is a diarrheal disease that has changed the history of mankind, devastating the world with seven pandemics from 1817 to the present day. Although there is little doubt in the causative agent of these pandemics being Vibrio cholerae of the O1 ...

Long-Term CD4+ T-Cell and Immunoglobulin G Immune Responses in Oncology Workers following COVID-19 Vaccination: An Interim Analysis of a Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesVaccines, 2022
We conducted a prospective study to evaluate immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 in oncology workers in which we collected blood and clinical data every 6 months.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Hereditary Deltas

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 1994
A small category is called a delta if it is skeletal and the only endomorphisms are the identities. A small category \({\mathcal C}\) is \(R\)- hereditary if the functor category \((\text{Mod} R)^{\mathcal C}\) has global dimension at most one, where \(\text{Mod} R\) denotes the category of left \(R\)-modules, \(R\) is a ring with an identity.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
