Discovery of an endogenous Deltaretrovirus in the genome of long-fingered bats (Chiroptera: Miniopteridae) [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2017
Significance Retroviruses copy their RNA genome into complementary DNA, which is then inserted into the host chromosomal DNA as an obligatory part of their life cycle. Such integrated viral sequences, called proviruses, are passed to the infected cell progeny on cellular division.

Construction and characterization of deltaretrovirus indicator cell lines

Journal of Virological Methods, 2005
The deltaretroviruses, which include bovine leukemia virus (BLV) and human T-cell leukemia virus types 1 and 2 (HTLV-1 and HTLV-2), replicate poorly in culture and the molecular details of their life cycles are limited. To facilitate the analysis of virus replication, mammalian cell lines were created with the long terminal repeats (LTRs) of each virus

Tax & Rex: Overlapping Genes of the Deltaretrovirus Group

Virus Genes, 2006
Bovine leukemia virus and human T-cell leukemia viruses I and II, members of the Deltaretrovirus group, have two regulatory genes, tax and rex, that are coded in overlapping reading frames. We found that sequence variations in the rex gene of each virus result in amino acid differences significantly more often than variations in the tax gene.

Next-generation transcriptome analysis of deltaretrovirus induced leukemia: from microRNAs to macroRNAs

2015
