Most of the harvested demersal fish from Norway and Iceland is from sustainable, but fully exploited fish stocks. Increasing the harvest is therefore not considered a feasible option to meet the future global demand of seafood.

Does nature shape risk preferences? Evidence from Chile, Norway, and Tanzania
Abstract Does exposure to a more risky environment affect risk preferences? Going beyond single‐case study evidence, we report results from five surveys conducted in three countries and link this with administrative data to study whether a link between exposure and preferences is detectable and widespread. We find no evidence for endogenous preferences

ABSTRACT Most of the previously large cod stocks in the North Atlantic are depleted to very low levels. A notable exception has been the Northeast Arctic cod inhabiting the Barents Sea. This cod stock reached a record high level around 2013, but since then has declined sharply, with older fish being fished out and few new recruits entering the stock ...

A dual pathways transfer model to account for changes in the radioactive caesium level in demersal and pelagic fish after the Fukushima Daï-ichi nuclear power plant accident. [PDF]
The Fukushima Daï-ichi nuclear power plant (FDNPP) accident resulted in radioactive Cs being discharged into the local marine environment. While Cs bioaccumulates in biota and slowly depurates, the Cs concentrated in biota constitutes a source of Cs for ...

ABSTRACT Fisheries managers increasingly rely on stock assessment models to provide sustainable management advice, which must balance complex and competing objectives. Although assessment models necessitate simplifying assumptions, there is increasing recognition to improve the integration of realistic biological and fishery dynamics. While ongoing and

CONSTRUCTION ANALYSIS OF BOTTOM GILLNET AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO BOTTOM TRAWL IN PEKALONGAN WATERS [PDF]
A bottom trawl is a fishing tool that is not recommended by the government to capture demersal fish resources in Pekalongan waters. Therefore, a bottom gillnet is an alternative substitute for bottom trawl fishing gear in catching demersal fish.

ABSTRACT Light can be used to deter bycatch from fishing nets, but few studies have aimed to quantify how species view and respond to light. Here, we used visual models to predict how target (plaice Pleuronectes platessa) and bycatch (small‐spotted catshark Scyliorhinus canicular and undersized skates, Raja spp) species, captured in mixed demersal ...

Recreational boat fishing pressure on fish communities of the shelf and shelf break of Faial and Pico Islands (Azores Archipelago): implications for coastal resource management [PDF]
Background. Several studies have highlighted the negative potential of recreational boat fishing to put pressure on coastal fish species and in particular on those that are vulnerable.

Analisis Degradasi Dan Depresiasi Sumberdaya Ikan Demersal Pada Perikanan Dogol Di Perairan Selat Sunda (Degradation and Depreciation Analysis of Demersal Fish Resources on Dogol Fisheries in Sunda Strait) [PDF]
Dogol is one type of fishing gear which is operated by fisherman in Sunda Strait with demersal fishes as dominant catches, such as goatfish, threadfin brean, ponyfish, Indian halibut and drums. The utilization was done throughout the year and without ...

Bioaccumulation modelling and sensitivity analysis for discovering key players in contaminated food webs: the case study of PCBs in the Adriatic Sea [PDF]
Modelling bioaccumulation processes at the food web level is the main step to analyse the effects of pollutants at the global ecosystem level. A crucial question is understanding which species play a key role in the trophic transfer of contaminants to ...
