Impact of Imperfect Parameter Estimation on the Performance of Multi-User ARGOS Receivers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, we analyze the performance of Successive Interference Cancelation (SIC) receivers in the context of the ARGOS satellite system. Multi-user SIC receivers are studied in presence of imperfect estimates of signal parameters.

Probabilistic Amplitude Demodulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Auditory scene analysis is extremely challenging. One approach, perhaps that adopted by the brain, is to shape useful representations of sounds on prior knowledge about their statistical structure. For example, sounds with harmonic sections are common and so time-frequency representations are efficient.

Disorder‐Induced Extremely Low Thermal Conductivity of Graphite Fluoride

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article investigates the effect of fluorination on the thermal conductivity of graphite fluoride, demonstrating the relationship between structural modification and thermal conductivity in an extreme case. The record‐low through‐plane thermal conductivity measured in exfoliated graphite fluoride flakes was found to correlate with the wide ...

Analytical bit error rate performance evaluation of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing power line communication system impaired by impulsive and Gaussian channel noise

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2015
An analytical approach is presented to evaluate the bit error rate (BER) performance of a power line (PL) communication system considering the combined influence of impulsive noise and background PL Gaussian noise.

Staged demodulation and decoding

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
Coding for the phase noise channel is investigated in the paper. Specifically, Wiener's phase noise, which induces memory in the channel, is considered. A general coding principle for channels with memory is the interleaving of two or more codes. The interleaved codes are decoded in sequence, using past decisions to help future decoding.

3D Large‐Scale Subwavelength‐Resolution Sound Sheet Tomography Based on an Active and Programmable Circular Meta‐Array

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A programmable 2048‐element circular ultrasound array combined with a compact acoustic lens produces a thin “sound sheet” over a large field of view, and records echoes with wide angular diversity across the ring aperture. Coherence‐enhanced beamforming converts full‐matrix data into high‐contrast tomographic slices, delivering near‐diffraction‐limited
